The Four Pillars Of Productivity

After recognizing the distractions and following the solutions I recommended in my previous blog, the next thing to help propel your business this coming year is keeping in mind these four pillars of productivity.

The four pillars are:

  • Systems Over Goals
  • The Early Bird Gets Everything Done
  • Kill Your Distractions
  • Slay Your Dragons

Now let me tell you about these pillars one by one.

Systems Over Goals

While goals can be really helpful, they are not always ideal. Goals have one big problem: they have a termination point. And if they have a termination point and you did not meet your goal during that time, there is a good chance you will feel like a failure.

Understand that you cannot measure success by merely crossing off a goal on your list. What is a better indication of the success of your business is having systems in place. Systems help you make progress each day.

Before we dive into systems, let me tell you what exactly they are. Systems are a series of actions you consistently take to reach your desired goal. If you follow the system, you eventually reach the goal.

Systems are also more flexible than goals. If your system is not working, you can always change it up and create another way to approach your goal. This give you a sense of progress and forward movement instead of goals that limit your happiness.

What you have to ask yourself now is: do you have systems that are moving you towards your big goals?

The Early Bird Gets Everything Done

According to research, the most successful entrepreneurs tend to be early risers.  Tim Cook, Richard Branson, Howard Schultz, and many other business leaders rise early so that they are more productive. Further, early risers get better grades in school and have more opportunities throughout their lives.

Night owls, on the other hand, are prone to negative through patterns. When you work at night, your energy is limited. How can your business thrive if you cannot give the one hundred percent of your energy that your business needs?

So, if you are currently not an early riser, try going to bed earlier. You may also start practicing turning off your screens several hours before bedtime. Accordingly, using screens in the hours leading up to bed has been shown to disrupt sleep patterns.

Another thing you can do is to create a healthy sleep routine. Meaning, you should create a schedule when you go to bed and when you should get up. Eventually, you may find that you no longer need an alarm clock! Oh what a day to look forward to! Speaking of alarm clocks, make sure that this 2023, you move your alarm clock away from your bed. This will force you to get up out of bed in the morning and not just simply hit the snooze button when your alarm clock is close to you!

Lastly, get some exercise to increase time spent in deep sleep and give yourself a motivating reason to get up early.

Kill Your Distractions

I already shared to you the top 5 distractions that you should recognize and avoid. Now, let me tell you more about killing your distractions.

Distractions kill your productivity. So what better way to put it than kill your distractions instead of productivity. Go back to the portion of this article about distractions and start from there.

Next, make your plans the night before. Whether it is a small or big plan, note that planning in advance eliminates the need to think about it. Once you eliminate that need, you can focus on simply getting the plans for the day done.

My last advice for you in killing your distractions is not to always be working. Make time for rest and play. Your brain needs to unwind, relax, and take a break. You cannot be a hundred percent focused on work all day long. Allow your brain to recharge and refocus this 2023 so your success will be limitless!

Slay Your Dragons

Slaying your dragons mean identifying your most challenging tasks. Slay these tasks first thing each day because it is more productive to do these challenging tasks first instead of the other way around.

I get it, it can be tempting to do the easy tasks first just to get a sense of accomplishment. However, research has demonstrated that those who do their most challenging tasks first are generally more successful and productive!

There you have it, my secrets to stop procrastinating and getting everything done! 2023 is your year. Claim it, say no to distractions, and say yes to your destiny of having a successful business!
